Custom Search iPad mini 5 vs iPad mini 4: What’s the Difference

Almost four years after the release of the iPad mini 4, Apple released its successor — the iPad mini 5. While the market for small tablets has relatively died down, the more powerful iPad mini 5 should find a few takers. Interested in knowing how the iPad mini 5 differs from the iPad mini 4? Read our comparison to find out.

Externally, the iPad mini 5 might look the same as the iPad mini 4 but it is a massive upgrade internally which puts its performance on par with the likes of the iPhone XS and 2018 iPad Pro. But that refresh comes in the form of a higher price tag as well.
iPad mini 5 vs iPad mini 4: What’s the Difference
Design and Display

The iPad mini 5 and iPad mini 4 have the same dimensions — 203.2 x 134.8 x 6.1mm. The new iPad mini is heavier by a gram — 300.5gms vs 299gms — but that’s a difference most people are likely never going to notice.

Both mini iPads feature a 7.9-inch display.

However, the iPad mini 5 features a newer Retina Display panel with True Tone and Wide color display.

It is also laminated to the cover glass and features an anti-reflective coating which the iPad mini 4 lacks.
Chipset, Storage, and Apple Pencil Support

The iPad mini 5 packs a 3x more powerful CPU and a 9x more powerful GPU than the iPad mini 4.

While the iPad mini 4 packs a 20nm A8 chip, the iPad mini 5 features Apple’s latest 7nm A12 Bionic chip.

This is the same chip that’s found inside the iPhone XS and iPhone XR.

It has a dedicated Neural engine to speed up machine learning tasks.

The new iPad mini is available in 64GB and 256GB storage options.

The older iPad mini was available with up to 128GB storage space.

The iPad mini 5 has support for 1st gen Apple Pencil.

iPad mini 4 does not support Apple Pencil.
Connectivity

iPad mini 4 and iPad mini 5 both feature Lightning connector.

They also come with Touch ID.

The iPad mini 5 comes with significantly faster Wi-Fi ac and gigabit LTE support.

Both iPads lack support for Smart Keyboard.

The iPad mini 5 packs Bluetooth 5.0 while iPad mini 4 has Bluetooth 4.0.
Camera

The iPad mini 5 comes with an upgraded 8MP f/2.4 shooter at the rear.

It supports Live Photos and is capable of recording Full HD videos.

The iPad mini 4 also features an 8MP camera but it is an older sensor.

The iPad mini 5 features a 7MP camera at the front.

The iPad mini 4 packs a mere 1.2MP FaceTime camera.
Battery

There’s no word on battery capacity yet but the iPad mini 5 and iPad mini 4 both promise up to 10 hours of battery life.

The new iPad should offer slightly better battery life due to a more efficient chip and other components.
Pricing

This is an area where the iPad mini 4 and iPad mini 5 greatly differ.

The iPad mini 4 was available from $249.

The iPad mini 5 starts from $399.

The higher price tag of the iPad mini 5 is definitely going to turn off a lot of interested folks. For someone is willing to spend $399 on the iPad mini 5, extending the budget and buying the $499 10.5-inch iPad Air will make more sense. Also Read:How to Fix Windows was Unable to Format SD Card/USB Drive

Slack’s Latest Update Adds Dark Mode for iOS and Android

Slack’s Latest Update Adds Dark Mode for iOS and Android

Slack has released a new update for its mobile client on iOS and Android that adds a Dark mode to the app. While the desktop app has not received any such similar update, the Slack team promises that the desktop app will get the dark mode in the future as well.

Slack’s Dark mode on iOS and Android is not exactly true dark since it uses a dark grey background instead of a black one. Nonetheless, this should still lead to a noticeable reduction in power consumption on iPhones featuring an OLED display like the iPhone Xand iPhone XS.

Once you have updated to the latest version of Slack from the App Store, head into Settings and enable the ‘Dark mode’ toggle. The only issue right now is that Slack’s redesigned icon is predominantly white. Perhaps, the company can offer a darker version of the icon for users who have a darker home screen.

With more and more iOS apps gaining Dark mode, there’s a high possibility that we will also see Apple jump on the dark mode bandwagon with iOS 13 later this year. Apart from being easy on the eyes, a dark theme/mode will also help reduce power consumption on iPhones with OLED screens.

“Touch ID requires passcode when iPhone restarts” is a common notification for the person who uses a Touch ID-enabled iPhone, and this notification comes up every time when iPhone restarts. Moreover, the major reason for this issue is not explained on the iPhone lock screen where this notification appears. However, we were able to come up with some of the reasons why passcode is required to enable Touch ID when iPhone is restarted.

Part 1: Why does Touch ID Require a Passcode When iPhone Restarts?

Part 2: What If Touch ID Requires Passcode When iPhone Restarts?

Part 3: What If You Forgot the Screen Passcode?
Why does Touch ID Require a Passcode When iPhone Restarts?

Have you noticed that the issue that touch ID requires passcode when iPhone restarts or at some other intervals? In summary, the rules governing when a passcode is required instead of a fingerprint are as follows:

You just powered up or rebooted your iPhone.

In the past six days, you have not unlocked your iOS device using a passcode.

The Touch ID has not been used to unlock your device in the last eight hours.

Your iOS device has not been unlocked in the past 48 hours.

The last three consecutive attempts to unlock your device failed.

You just added a fingerprint to your Touch ID settings.

Your device may have received a remote lock command from iCloud.

You can refer to the article “iCloud: Use Lost Mode” to better understand the last point above.
What If Touch ID Requires Passcode When iPhone Restarts?
Tip 1. Update your iOS Device

There are many solutions to fix Touch ID not working on iPhone or iPad, but you have to first update your iOS device by going to “Settings > General > Software Update”.
Tip 2. Disable and Enable Touch ID

If Touch ID still requires passcode occasionally when you did not reboot your device, then disable and enable Touch ID by following these steps:

Step 1. Launch the Settings app on your iOS device, and go to Touch ID & Passcode. If asked to enter your passcode, enter your passcode and turn off iPhone Unlock, Apple Pay, and iTunes & App Store.

Step 2. Now, go back to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode. If asked to enter your passcode, enter your passcode and turn on iPhone Unlock, Apple Pay, and iTunes & App Store.
Tip 3. Delete and re-add your fingerprints

If after applying the second tip above, the issue is not resolved yet, then you can try removing your fingerprints from the Touch ID settings and re-adding them again.

Step 1. Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode.

Step 2. If asked for your passcode, enter it. You’ll see your registered fingerprints.

Step 3. Tap each fingerprint and select “Delete Fingerprint” to remove it.

Step 4. Restart your iPhone, and repeat step 1 & 2 above.

Step 5. Click “Add Fingerprint” and follow the onscreen prompts to register your fingerprint.
What If You Forgot the Screen Passcode?

All the solutions to resetting the Touch ID or removing and re-adding fingerprints to Touch ID settings would always require iOS device screen lock passcode. Now, what happens if you’ve forgotten the passcode to your device, or bought a locked iPhone from Amazon or eBay? The handy solution is to use a third-party app for unlocking iPhone Locks called iMyFone LockWiper.

LockWiper is a tool that was designed by iMyFone Inc. to unlock Apple ID password, iCloud account lock, iPhone/iPad lock screen, and iPhone/iPad restriction locks. It can also help you to reset Touch ID issues and errors in few clicks, and ensure that such issues never come up again.Sponsor ads:
